Overall Layout Planning
● Spatial Division Principles
Taking into account the land area and topographical characteristics of the suburban farm in the Netherlands, a combination of "determinant" and "cluster" layout was adopted, dividing the 11 horse stables into three clusters: Cluster A (4 horse stables), Cluster B (4 horse stables), and Cluster C (3 horse stables). A 4-5 meter wide cobblestone walkway was reserved between each cluster, facilitating easy access and horse handling while creating an elegant European-style manor atmosphere. Furthermore, neatly trimmed holly hedges were planted around each cluster, creating natural separations and enhancing privacy and aesthetics.
● Orientation Design
Taking into account the Netherlands' temperate maritime climate, characterized by year-round rain and relatively mild sunlight, all stables were oriented 15° south-east. This orientation ensures ample sunlight in winter, raising the horse stable temperature and reducing energy consumption; it also avoids direct sunlight during midday summer, preventing overheating and providing a comfortable living environment for the horses.
Single Stable Architectural Design
● Exterior Style
Door and Window Design: The horse stall front door is hinged, and the filling material is high-strength bamboo panels with anti-corrosion treatment. The side walls of the horse stable stall are designed with metal railings for lighting and ventilation.
● Interior Dimensions
The internal net dimensions of a single horse stall are designed to be 3.5 meters (width) × 4.5 meters (depth)×2.2 meters (height). This size accommodates the activities of adult horses (such as Dutch Warmbloods) without wasting space. The interior floor of the stable is constructed with cement flooring and non-slip rubber matting. The floor is sloped 1.5% toward the drain outlet to ensure that sewage and urine are quickly discharged into the sewage system, keeping the floor dry and clean.
Core Horse Living Facilities
● Stable: Utilizes a "high-strength bamboo board + metal railing" structure. The frame is constructed of 5cm hot-dip galvanized pipes inlaid with high-density bamboo boards, and the railings are 2.5cm diameter hot-dip galvanized steel pipes. This prevents the horse's feet from getting stuck while ensuring ventilation and visibility.
● Trough and Water Trough: The trough and water trough are located side by side on the inner wall of the horse stable (near the entrance). Both are made of stainless steel with a polished surface for easy cleaning. The water trough is equipped with an automatic water refill system to ensure that the horse has access to fresh water at all times. The refill system is operated by a foot-operated switch to prevent accidental activation by the horse.
Horse Stable Accessories
● Anti-slip Flooring
In addition to the anti-slip cement embossing process used on the interior stable floor, the floor within 1.5 meters outside the stable entrance is also treated with anti-slip light gray anti-slip tiles to prevent slips on damp surfaces when entering and exiting.
● Signage System
A wooden sign measuring 30 cm x 20 cm is installed on the exterior wall of each stable entrance. The sign is laser-engraved with the stable number (e.g., "A1," "B2") and the horse's name (changeable as needed). The sign is coated with a waterproof varnish to ensure long-term durability.
● Thermal Insulation Measures
The interior of the stable roof is insulated with a 5 cm sandwich design, this effectively blocks cold air in winter and prevents heat penetration in summer, maintaining a stable temperature inside the stable. The interior of the walls is also insulated with a 3 cm thick layer of glass wool, improving overall thermal insulation and reducing energy consumption for heating in winter and cooling in summer.
